  • Frequently Asked Questions

    Buying Tracks

    Q. Where do I buy karaoke tracks, sheet music and guitar tab?
We have dedicated Sheet Music, Karaoke and Guitar Tab stores. To get there, hit the Music Stores tab at the top of the page, and then select which store you’d like from the sub-menu that appears.

    Q. What comes with each download?
When you download a PureSolo song, you receive the sheet music, guitar tab or lyrics for that song together with the studio-recorded backing track, all in one download.

    Q. What happens to tracks after I have downloaded them?
When you purchase tracks from PureSolo, they are immediately stored with your log in details so that whenever you hit the Record menu at the top of any page, your songs are waiting in the menu on the left hand side of the page.

    Recording

    Q. How do I record at PureSolo?
First you need to have downloaded a track (see “Buying Tracks” above). Then, simply hit the Record tab in the menu bar at the top of your screen to bring up our recording platform. Select the song you wish to record from your library of songs on the left, wait for it to load up, then hit the record button to start.

    Q. What can be recorded at PureSolo?
You can choose from hundreds of accompaniment tracks and karaoke backing tracks to record over. Just visit the Music Stores and browse by artist, genre or instrument.

    Q. What equipment do I need in order to record?
All you need to record with PureSolo is a microphone. Most computers have a microphone built in, but if yours doesn’t, you’ll need to buy one – these can be as little as £5.00.

    Q. How many versions can I make of each song I download?
You can make as many versions as you like – there is no limit to how many recordings you can make at PureSolo

    Q. How do I adjust the levels of my recording?
Each time you finish recording, hit the Save button. This will take you straight into your mixing studio:

    Recorder_save_dialog

Here you can adjust the levels of your recording and add reverb. You can also name your recording here.

    Q. Is there one place where my recordings will be stored?
Yes, right next to your purchased songs is a tab called Recordings so you can go back and change them (like adding a different reverb) or resend them in a different way.

    Q. Can I sing along with the backing singer on your Karaoke tracks?
On some of our tracks you have a guide vocal feature. To activate this feature, hit this button:

    Recorder_toggle

to switch the singer on. Hit it again to switch the singer off.

    Q. Does the sheet music or tab need a page-turner?
Our sheet music and guitar tabs have an automatic page turn feature that we have devised in order to allow you to view the bottom of the page you are on and the top of the next page.

    Video

Please note: The following are guidelines for using the PureSolo video capabilities.

    Tips

Before you start using video functions you may find the following useful for recording your performances on PureSolo:

    • Make sure you have plenty of light in the room so your movements are picked up clearly by the camera. The more light, the better. We want to see your performances!
    • Set up your camera so it is picking up all of your face and shoulders on screen.
    • Make sure you don’t have any lights shining directly into the camera lens, as this will significantly decrease the quality of the image.
    • High resolution = higher quality. If your camera has the capabilities and you can record your videos in high definition then do it!
    • All cameras are colour calibrated. It’s unlikely a webcam will have a ‘white balance’ control, but if you use a digital camera then there should be a ‘white setting’ somewhere.
    • The PureSolo recorder is unique as it allows you to record and play audio and video at the same time. If you’re unsure whether your computer can support video recording please have a look below at the minimum system requirements for both PC and Mac users.
    • Above all be yourself, have fun and enjoy!

    Help

If you’re having problems with your video recordings then this is the place for you! If, however, we still haven’t answered your query then please do get in contact with us and we will endeavour to answer your question!

    Q. What if I don’t want to record video?
No problem, you don’t have to record video, you can still record just the audio. All you need to do is click on the video recorder button and select ‘No camera’

    Video_screen_shot_no_camera_highlighted

Once selected, the video camera button will have a red cross through it and you will only be able to record the audio.

    Video_screen_shot_no_camera

    Q. I’ve recorded my audio without video, but now want to record with video. How do I change back?
Select the video camera button and choose the camera you wish to use from the list.

    Q. Why does my video look grainy?
Your video will look grainy if you’re running your webcam at a low resolution, change your configuration resolution to the highest resolution you possibly can.

    Q. Do I need to buy an expensive webcam for PureSolo video to work?
No, many people assume that if you purchase an expensive webcam you will get better results than a regular webcam. The results will be slightly better, but the main advantage of an expensive webcam is that it will cope with low lights better than a regular one. It’s perfectly acceptable to have a regular webcam – as we’ve mentioned before, the more light the better!

    Q. I’ve saved my video recording and exported it to my profile but when I check it, it just says ‘processing’ and no video’s uploaded.
As video files are so much larger than audio files they will take a little longer to export. You will need to refresh the page on your profile and that will then show that the file uploaded.

    Q. I’ve recorded some videos but when I go to the ‘record’ tab they aren’t there.
Once recorded and saved your videos can be found in the ‘Recordings’ tab found to the left of the player in between ‘Songs’ and ‘Help’. If you click on this it will list all of your recordings you’ve saved.

    Q. Why is my audio and video out of sync when I save it and play it back?
This could be for various reasons. Try the following:

    • Sometimes when other programs are running on your workstation at the same you are recording this may have an effect on the overall quality produced.
    • Try a different webcam if you can. Some users have found whilst testing that onboard webcams have provided better quality than external webcams.
    • Change the recording quality settings to high before you start recording.
    • Lack of lighting will also affect the quality of recording. If the light is too low then the frames will jump, hence the delayed effect.

    Q. Why can’t I see the video functions? It looks just like the normal player.
You can only see video capabilities if you have a camera connected to your workstation. If your camera is connected to the workstation and you still can’t see it please make sure your camera is switched on.

    Q. I have recorded a song with video and saved it. When I Share or Export it I can’t see the video anymore.
Once you’ve recorded and saved your song you will have a box pop up asking you whether you want to ‘Export Movie’, ‘Export Sound Only’ or ‘Cancel’:

    Video_export

Please choose ‘Export Movie’ and this will then export both audio and video.

    Sharing my Music

    Q. Once I've recorded and saved a track, how do I share it?
When you have recorded a track, hit Save and set the levels, then hit Save again when you’re happy. This brings you to the sharing section which looks like this:

    Recorder_share

Here you can burn to CD, send as a ring tone, email your song, or save as an mp3 file on your desktop. You can also upload the song to your musical profile on PureSolo for others to hear.

    Q. So how do I burn a cd of my recording?
After you press “Burn it” you will be given the following window:

    Recorder_burn

You can also add additional tracks and rearrange the order.

    Q. How do I send an email of my recording?

    Q. What happens if I don’t decide to share a track right after I’ve recorded, but want to share it later?
You can share your recordings whenever you like – select Recordings from the small menu on the left of the recording page to bring up all the tracks you’ve recorded. Select the track you’d like to share to load it up onto the main screen, the hit the Share button on the bottom right of the control panel.
